Each wax petal of the Screen candle has been hand crafted and applied. The Screen vessel comes with a small candle to place inside and create a subtle light for your room. The production process begins with beeswax from the state of Chiapas, which is known to be the highest-quality beeswax in Mexico. The candle workshop, based in Oaxaca, receives the beeswax in large blocks. The artesans begin by breaking the blocks with a hammer and melting the wax in steel pots over firewood. They pour the liquid beeswax into moulds to create thin sheets, and add colour. Once they are dry, the sheets are hung from the branches of a tree under the sun for three days to bleach and soften them. Then the artesans cut the wax petals and attach them by hand. Traditionally candles made in this style were used when a couple got engaged. The groom-to-be would bring a candle to his beloveds home, and once they had confirmed their engagement with her parents they would light the candle. So the candles have a long history of association with love, devotion and promises. We have handpicked these candles because they combine a rich cultural and artesanal heritage with a contemporary focus on purity of material and simple form.
