The collection was first launched in 1959 exclusively for the Japanese market. Designed for Japanese 'Yama-otoko' mountain men, to be reliable in treacherous terrain, these are part of the Land collection. Hugely popular with many fans worldwide, these new designs are now available with an upgraded specification from their original inspiration - a longer power reserve of 70 hours and a glass upgrade to Sapphire glass. Seiko Prospex watches are for sports lovers and adventure seekers in the water, in the sky or on land. This limited edition piece features a commemorative box and Alpinist pin badge. The Case: The Seiko Prospex Alpinist: 2021 European Limited Edition SPB197J1 has a stainless steel case measuring 39.5mm in diameter, with a thickness of 13.2mm. With dual oversized crowns, this watch is certainly a masculine iteration yet nonetheless one that remains elegant at all times. The use of sapphire glass ensures this is a highly resilient and versatile timepiece, reflecting the true nature of the Japanese mountaineers. The Dial: The dial of this limited edition Seiko Prospex Alpinist is presented a slick shade of emerald grey, evoking a sense of subtle splendour. Although the tonal aesthetics of this timepiece are subdued and toned-down it still embodies the true rugged functionality of the Alpinist collection. The three o'clock marker has been replaced by a date-window display that is magnified 2.5x by a cyclops. The centre of the dial is occupied by a cathedral style handset, providing the watch with a traditional utilitarian feel. They partly consist of a luminous material which allows for readability in areas of low light. A rotating compass inner ring is present at the outermost edge of the dial, allowing you determine an approximate direction. The Bracelet: The bracelet of the Seiko Prospex Alpinist comes in a conventional 3-link oyster style stainless steel design. It makes use of a brushed finish, which bestows the watch with further utilitarian features. A Seiko deployant clasp securely fastens the strap around the wearer's wrist. The Function: Seiko's 6R35 calibre movement powers this timepiece. It offers an astounding 70 hour power reserve and an accuracy of +25 to -15 seconds per day. The movement type is automatic with manual wind. The movement consists of 24 jewels and offers a hacking function that allows the wearer to accurately set the time.
