Description: The First Period Highland Stoneware Hexagonal Trivet brought to you by Scottish and Scandinavian Designs. Formed in Lochinver in the far North west of Scotland in 1974 by David Grant, who still works there decorating pieces, while he was still studying at RCA in London - you really couldn't get much further away if you tried but he had a dream of bringing work to the area he grew up in and creating a sustainable product made from clay made on the premises to finished item using semi-industrial techniques. This initial venture has now grown and there are two workshops one in Ullapool and the original works in Lochinver. Each item is hand painted and the artists are encouraged to innovate and develop designs so no two pieces are the same; individual pieces are signed by the artist. This trivet has the original Lochinver stamp dating it to the 1970's and is from the Celadon range which is still in production should you wish to purchase other items from the range but the trivet is now long out of production and a rare practical and beautiful item for using on the dinner table with a casserole to sitting the teapot on it - it's uses are many. Description: The Strmbergshyttan Glass Vase brought to you by Scottish and Scandinavian Designs. 1930's/40's signed Shrombershyttan vase immediately recognisable by the signature blue tint. It is signed and has production number 39/2 & 613223 engraved with 2 love birds on a branch - almost certainly a piece by Asta. In 1876, a glassworks called Lindfors (winding falls) opened just outside the town of Hovmantorp, about 50 km west of Orrefors. In 1933, Edward Strmberg, who was a former head at Orrefors, and his wife Gerda, who was a designer at Eda, leased the company and changed the name to Strmbergshyttan ( Strmberg's hut). Edward and his son Eric invented a way to produce a glass that had a bluish-silver hue, which became characteristic for Strmbergshyttan. Eric Strmberg and his wife, Asta, bought the company in 1945. Most of their glass is signed with Strmbergshyttan or Strmberg, as well as one or two production codes. Edward Strmberg believed that many hands made a piece, so the practice of marking the name of the designer or engraver on the glass did not begin until after Edward's death. For most of the 40+ years that the family controlled the glass mill, Gerda and Asta Strmberg were the designers. In the 50s, the talented ceramic artist, Gunnar Nylund, also designed for Strmbergshyttan. A terrible fire in 1973 left the glassworks in financial difficulties, and it was sold to Orrefors in 1976. Orrefors closed the Strmbergshyttan glassworks just three years later. About The Dealer: Scottish and Scandinavian Designs handpick stunning pieces of antique jewellery, glassware and homeware. Description: The 1969-74 Royal Copenhagen Faience Bell brought to you by Scottish and Scandinavian Designs. Bells are an inherent item in Danish homes more especially at Christmas times but throughout the year you will find bells hung around the Danish home as a part of Hygge. Hygge - the concept, which is rooted in comfort, togetherness, and well-being, is inherently soothing. Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment. As a cultural category with its sets of associated practices hygge has more or less the same meanings in Danish and Norwegian, but the notion is more central in Denmark than in Norway. Most if not all Aluminia Fajence or Royal Copenhagen bells were designed by Greta Nash ne Helland- Hansen and come in two sizes most Danish homes wouldn't be without one - or more. GHH (1939 - 1999) was born in Oslo and attended the School of Arts and Crafts in Oslo 1958-1962. She introduced the Japanese raku ware pottery tradition in Norway and her wall plate Bysants from 1991 was acquired by the Storting. She is represented in the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, the West Norway Museum of Decorative Art and Srlandets Art Museum. She was decorated Knight, First Class of the Order of St. Olav in 1998. About The Dealer: Scottish and Scandinavian Designs handpick stunning pieces of antique jewellery, glassware and homeware. Description: The Orrefors Blue Mayflower Vase brought to you by Scottish and Scandinavian Designs. Orrefors is a name synonymous with beautiful glass throughout Scandinavia. It is based in Smlandin Sweden on the site of an old ironworks and continued on this site until 2012 when it closed it's doors. There has been a number of notable designers such as Simon Gate; Edward Hald; Sven Palmquist and Vicke Lindstrand to name but a few all influential in the development of the Orrefors brand. The Mayflower range was developed by Jan Johansson in 1972 incorporating a ring of coloured glass in the base of the vase which due to the refractive qualities seemed to flow up the petals when viewed from above or at their very tips when viewed from the side. In the first series, there were 4 colours known as the seasons - green for spring; red for summer; lime green for autumn and blue for winter of which this vase is and example. Both signed Orrefors and JJ for Jan Johansson with production number 979011 dates the piece to 1979. Description: The Sven Jonson Gustavsberg Pipe Vase brought to you by Scottish and Scandinavian Designs. Gustavsberg began producing porcelain/stoneware in the 1820's in competition with the only other Swedish porcelain factory in existence at this time - Rorstrand but it is not until 1839/40 when they imported English clay and some English artisans that the output improved both in quality and consistency. In the 1930's with the arrival of William Kage and later Stig Linberg that the reputation of Gustavsberg improved immeasurably. In the 1960's Sven Jonson joined the works and developed a range of vases known as Facett depicting the outline of flowers and/or other everyday objects. This vase is design 5 of the Facett range in the signature bronze/brown background overlaid with silver - each side sporting a different flower - on one side tulips the other cowslips or possibly lily of the valley. The silver overlay is in superb condition not having been over polished in its lifetime and an excellent example of Mid Century Design still with it's original labels intact on the bottom. Frequently when shopping in an Antique Centre or Fair you will find items described as rare; one of etc here we most certainly have a rare item - all searches of the Web have revealed no other. So what is it? - it's a small pin dish in 925 S silver marked for Olav Fritjof Hjortdahl of Oslo - history below, dating to 1930-1940s. The dish made of solid silver and is quite deep at 17mm and has the most amazing champleve enamel work we've ever seen in 25+ years. Extensive research leads us to believe it's a depiction of St Magnus; Earl Magnus of Orkney fame and indeed the Cathedral is named after him; an interesting tale in itself. Why the Saga of Earl Magnus - who knows but a rare and very beautiful item looking for a forever home with a most discerning collector. Description: The Sterling Silver Georg Jensen Pendant Necklace brought to you by Scottish and Scandinavian Designs.#190 Pendant designed by Henning Koppel. Henning Koppel started designing jewellery and hollowware for Georg Jensen in 1945. In 1961 he became a designer for Bing & Grndahl and at Orrefors Glasbruk from 1971. Danish design can in large part be attributed to Henning Koppel. His innovative and modernist shapes, beautiful in every aspect, broke new ground for Georg Jensen. His designs are tempered with strict functionalist rules with organic, lifelike shapes. As a mission, Koppel made everyday life products as beautiful as possible. Constructed with strict, clean lines, Koppels designs still managed to exude warmth. Renowned as an outstanding exponent of Scandinavian design, Koppel is roundly acknowledged as one of the greatest original minds in the art of modern silver. His precise, swung lines internationally acclaimed are among the centurys very best. Koppels eminent silver hollowware demands only the utmost in expertise from smithy craftsmen. Koppel had created an astonishing range of work, from stainless steel cutlery to magnificent one-off signature pieces like no others. Koppel continued designing for Georg Jensen until his death in 1981. This pendant is one of his best known jewellery designs and is no longer in production and still in it's original packing. The pendant is on the original bar fastening and is perfect for either men or women. It has a warm patina and would make an ideal present for that special person. Description: The Sterling Silver Georg Jensen Ear Clips brought to you by Scottish and Scandinavian Designs.#131 Ear Clips designed by Nanna Ditzel. A rare vintage pair of silver ear clips designed by Nanna Ditzel in the 1950's in beautiful condition. A simple but effective eye catching design equally at home with jeans; in the office or evening time with the little black number out on the town. Now out of production therefore very sought after. Many of Jensen's earrings were designed as clips because that is the culture of Scandinavian countries and only latterly has pierced earrings become the norm in the Northern Countries hence why many of the early and vintage designs are only found in clip or screw fittings. Nanna and her husband Jorgen were asked to design jewellery for Georg Jensens 50th anniversary in 1954. Ditzel's collaboration with Georg Jensen spanned more than 50 years during which time she produced more than 150 works for the company, mostly in jewellery design. Ditzels unceasing innovation in uses of silver and gold over half a century has produced jewellery with its own modern idiom, one that has come to represent Georg Jensens unique design language. Considered one of the 20th centurys leading furniture and jewellery designers, Ditzel was most prolific during that post- World War II time period known as the Golden Age of Danish Design. Description: The Sterling Silver Georg Jensen Full Peapod Server brought to you by Scottish and Scandinavian Designs. Designed in 1919 design #12 known as Blossom or Peapod was designed by Jensen himself and is a highly sought after due to the intricate nature of the design. This server is marked with post 1945 marks and Sterling Denmark placing it's production between 1945 and 1969. The serving plate is hand planished with chamfered edge to pick up - whatever it is you wish to serve. Amazingly it still retains the 2 scrolling tendrils at the end of the handle so often missing after years of use and later productions did not include these elegant tendrils as they were difficult to cast. Traditionally these are used for cucumber or tomato but equally could be used for pastries; petit four indeed anything you wish. Born in 1866, Jensen began his training in goldsmithing at the age of 14 in Copenhagen with Andersen and finished his training with this firm in 1884. In 1901 he additionally trained with Morgens Ballin before taking the landmark decision of starting his own workshop in 1904 . His apprenticeship with the firm Guldsmed Andersen, ended in 1884, and this freed young Georg to follow his artistic interests. In 1901, he began as a silversmith and designer with the master, Mogens Ballin. This led Jensen to make a landmark decision, when in 1904, he risked what small capital he had and opened his own little silversmithy at 36 Bredgade in Copenhagen by the end of 1930 he had premises in New York; London; Paris; Stockholm and Berlin and the rest as they say is history. Today the name Georg Jensen is synonymous with quality; style; design and elegance. Description: The Sterling Silver 1977 Lapponia Galactic Peak Necklace from Scottish and Scandinavian Designs. An iconic piece of 20th century design, the Galactic Peak silver necklace by Bjorn Weckstrom of Lapponia. The necklace/collar comprises of 21 plaques including the hidden catch; each link measuring 18mm x 18mm with a soft raised design in the Lapponia signature satin finish. A superb piece of jewellery still in it's original Lapponia bag and in excellent condition awaiting it's new owner. Lapponia and Bjorn Weckstrom shot to fame in 1977 when George Lucas asked him to design a piece of jewellery for Carrie Fisher in Star Wars - as it turned out there was only 2 weeks to achieve this so Weckstrom picked his Planetoid Valley necklace from his Space series of jewellery for Princes Leia to wear in the final scenes and the rest as they say is history. When working in silver, Weckstrms aim is to portray the snowy, Finnish winter landscape and frozen lakes through the unique finish, characteristic of his jewelry designs, the dramatic dialogue of crystal clear and soft shimmering matte silver however in his Space series it was the emptiness of space and it's reflections he was capturing in his designs.
