Green Tear, a superb and amazingly expensive new discovery, is one of the most strongly virescent and best 'green' snowdrops known. The outer petals are broad and are marked with vertical green strands which can become almost confluent, though it is a soft green and rather lovely for that. The inner segments are almost emerald green except for a slender white border near the apex. Single bulbs have fetched roughly £200 for its discoverer. This treasure does have one fault - against other green things in the garden, it rather disappears, blending into the background. So, it is a plant to purposefully point out to your gardening guests, encouraging them stoop low in order to admire its undoubted beauty close to. When Rachel set about designing a special vase to celebrate Mother's Day this year, she had a whole world of flowers to choose from. After much thought and consideration, Rachel selected one of her favourite flowers, the oriental lily. Amazingly, Rachel managed to discover a variety called Mother's Choice - a fragrant, pure white lily with dark stamens. The brilliance of the petals in this numbered edition vase, is mirrored in the white clay above the flower, which are framed by both light and dark green leaves. A wonderful choice for any mother. This tiny but colourful bird is a splendid sight, bathing in sunlight on a waterside perch. Yet sadly they are vulnerable to hard winters and habitat degradation through pollution or unsympathetic management of watercourses. Kingfishers are amber listed because of their unfavourable conservation status in Europe. In Rachel's design, a contented little kingfisher perches upon delicate grasses, poised to take flight and dart away at a moment's notice. All of us know how wonderful it is to watch swallows, mid-air aerobics catching their food, but it is just as special to see them at rest. They often seek out the most convenient pylon cable to sit along, swinging and balancing precariously above our living world. Rachel watched these daring little birds, totally oblivious to the world and has recalled their blushing colours, amusing positions and lively character to absolute perfection.
