Grey wolves (Canis lupus), are found in various guises throughout remote areas of the Northern Hemisphere. They have been an essential element in the folk law and literature of almost all cultures and ages. She-wolves are the epitome of maternal protection and feminine strength, they were particularly prevalent in Roman legend and also the title given to Englands war-like medieval queens. The sterling silver wolf measures 3. 5cm or a little under one and a half inches long. It weighs approximately 27g (which is slightly under an ounce), or 39g including the solid silver chain, and has eyes made from rich, brown smoky quartz. It was hand-carved from wax which had a mould taken from it. It was then cast in solid silver and given a hallmark by the Assay Office. To emphasize the details of the carving, the silver wolf was given an antique appearance by oxidising and then satin finishing the pendant. The whole piece was then coated with a layer of clear lacquer to help preserve the colouration. The silver wolf has been hung from a sturdy 22-inch long chain with a substantial clasp. Swift, secretive hares can be found in their different guises all over the world and play an important role in the faith, folk law and fables of many cultures. Rabbits and hares were once regarded as animals sacred to Aphrodite & Eros and were presented as gifts of love. This sterling silver rabbit/hare measures 5cm, or two inches long. It weighs approximately 30g (which is around an ounce), not including the chain and has its tawny orange eyes made from Madeira topaz cabochons. It was hand-carved from wax which had a mould taken from it and was then cast in solid silver and given a hallmark by the assay office. To emphasize the details of the carving it was given an antique appearance by oxidising and then satin finishing the pendant. The whole piece was then coated with a layer of clear lacquer to help preserve the colouration. The silver pendant has been hung from a sturdy 22-inch long chain with a substantial clasp. Description: The Sterling Silver & Sapphire Badger Pendant by Adrian Ashley. Found in its different guises across Europe, Asia and North America the badger is a much-loved animal with strength and courage that are celebrated in countless folktales and childrens stories. This piece depicts a European Badger (Meles meles), the nocturnal, burrowing creature featured in Kenneth Graham's classic The Wind in the Willows, as Tommy Brock in Beatrix Potter's childrens books and as the house symbol for Hufflepuff in the Harry Potter series. The European badger is a powerfully built black, white, and grey animal with a small head, a stocky body, little black eyes and a short tail. The European badger is generally a social, peaceful animal, having been known to share its burrow with other species such as rabbits, red foxes and raccoon dogs. The sterling silver badger pendant measures a little under 4cm or one and a half inches long. It weighs approximately 23g and has its beady eyes made from dark sapphire cabochons. It was hand-carved from wax which had a mould taken from it and was then cast in solid silver and given a hallmark to prove that it is silver. The badgers black and white stripes were created by oxidising the silver to make the black stripes and then cutting through the oxidisation to expose the silver beneath and create the white stripes. The whole badger was then coated with a layer of clear lacquer to help preserve the colouration. This pendant is supplied on a waxed cotton cord in its own gift box. Description: The Sterling Silver & Garnet Owl Pendant by Adrian Ashley. With its heart-shaped face, white feathers and ghostly silent flight, the barn owl (Tyto alba) is a distinctive and much-loved countryside bird. Barn owls are the most widely distributed species of owl, and one of the most widespread of all bird species. They mate for life and can live for fifteen years. This silver barn owl pendant measures 3. 2cm or one and a quarter inches across its face. It weighs 25g and has eyes made from 6mm garnets. This owl was hand-carved from wax which had a mould taken from it and was then cast in solid silver and given a hallmark by the assay office. It is supplied on a cotton cord in its own gift box.
